Accessibility
I have tried to make the site easy to use and understand, no matter what technology or abilities you have. For example, you should be able to:
- see all the text on the site clearly because it has enough contrast,
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen,
- navigate the website using a keyboard,
- listen to the website using a screen reader.
The site aims to conform to the to the 'AA' standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. This is not just a legal requirement in the UK and European Union, but a best practice that will enable as many people as possible to use the site.
The slideshow of my portfolio is not as accessible as it could be, and I plan to create a portfolio in a simple web page soon (by the end of 2025).
How to report problems
If you have any difficulties or annoyances using the site, or feel that I am not meeting accessibility requirements, then please contact me (martin@martincookdesign.co.uk). I am always interested in feedback and how things can be improved.
How I assess the accessibility of the site
I do not have the resources to hire an accessibility expert, but I have taken an interest in digital accessibility. I have watched many people use websites during user testing, and done courses in accessibility (including the W3C's own course). Apart from using my own knowledge, I have assessed the site resources including:
- The W3C Web Accessibility Initiative checklist
- The British government accessibility checklist
- The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
- WAVE accessibility checker, which runs an automated accessibility check on your pages.
The website was last tested on 4 November 2025.
Level of compliance
As far as we can ascertain, this website is compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. If you feel there are issues to address, however, then please let me know (martin@martincookdesign.co.uk).
This statement was prepared on 31 October 2025.
